Crista
Crista (Del Carmen Mendez DaCosta) MacGowan is of Latin background, born and raised in Latin America and later moved to North America with her family. Eventually she met and married Alex and began her struggle with the oddity that is her new married name. Crista is very much the passionate latina in all that she does; emotional, dramatic and exuding love of life and strappy sandals.
Alex Alex MacGowan is first generation North American, born to Scottish/English parents. Though typically quiet and reserved, his goofy side surfaces around those he’s closest to. A techie geek at heart, his love of computers and video games is matched with his passion for hockey goaltending.
Rachel (and Kitty)
Rachel is Alex and Crista’s daughter and a typical toddler: adorable, mischievous and wicked-tempered. Her true love is her toy platypus, and torturing the cat is her favorite pastime. The cat is currently unnamed, but called “The Cat” for now until someone comes up with a brilliantly witty name. He is a milder take of the popular ‘evil’ cat bent on world domination; usually just being very grumpy and taking it out on Alex. He is very much Crista’s cat, Alex being much more a “lazy, lazy dog” kind of guy.
Sean (Alex’s Brother)
Sean is Alex’s younger brother by two years. Unlike Alex, Sean knows how to dress well and he takes a more laid back approach to life. He is currently dating Dana (pink hair!), and he is quite the favorite uncle to Rachel.
Dana (Sean’s Girlfriend)
Wild in spirit and pink in hair, Dana tries to drag quiet Sean out of his shell and put some fun in his life. Sean and Alex’s mom isn’t quite sure what to make of her, but she doesn’t “approve”.
Sofi (Crista’s Sister)
In her tempermental teens and an emotional roller coaster, Sofi is Crista’s younger sister and shopping partner-in-crime. She’s an aspiring artist and ballet dancer… if she can stay focused long enough to finish school that is.
Diego (Crista’s Brother)
A romantic and a bit of a serial-dater, Diego rides a bike that is much envied by Alex. Diego works and lives in a city about an hour from Crista and Alex’s house, but often comes by to visit and unintentionally wreak havoc.
Mr. and Mrs. MacGowan (Alex’s Parents)
Its a very Scottish last name, and the ‘rents are fiercely proud of it. ‘Mum’ works to maintain a comfortable air of proper etiquette, oblivious to the fact that she was born without a tact gene. Dad’s the quiet type, unless the subject of cars and/or beer are brought up.
Mr. and Mrs. Mendez (Crista’s Parents)
Latin and proud of it, Crista’s parents are as different from Alex’s as can be imagined. They moved to North America when Crista was 12. ‘Mami’ and ‘Papi’ live about an hour away with Sofi.
Mercedes (Crista’s Best Friend)
Nicknamed Merci, Mercedes is the same age as Crista and is her confidant. They met when they were 12 and Crista was new to the country. Mercedes is also of Latin background.
